Critics show unhappy response to Hangover 2
Despite the warm reception of moviegoers, which placed The Hangover 2 at the top of the box office weekend on its debut week, critics, however, were not so thrilled.
Critics were not as enthusiastic and amused by the film, as movie viewers are. Critics say that the film is “the same as the first movie but with a different setting and a few new jokes put in”. Another comment of a critic states that the movie was very “predictable”. Critics feel that the sequel lacks the idea of freshness, as they have seen that every situation in the sequel is a mirror of the first movie.
According to director Todd Philips, he felt that the movie was liberating. It was liberating for him because he knew that people were already fans of the first movie and naturally they would go and see the second one. The director added that since the movie was in chaos, they had to find chaos, and thus they flew to Bangkok to film. Another factor that added more chaos to the film was the fact that these big boys were in a foreign country with a language that they did not understand nor speak.
In spite of what the critics say, moviegoers continue to patronize the film, as the total gross grew to over 200 million dollars worldwide.
