“Game of Thrones,” “Homeland” Enter TV Guild Races
Game of Thrones and Homeland are two of the most popular series currently on HBO and Showtime. Game of Thrones is a fantasy drama that appeals to a lot of fans. Those who are more interested in thrillers will probably enjoy Homeland more, because the storyline is so suspenseful and it keeps you on the edge of your seat every week.
The problem is that such popular series seems to have a hard time getting the recognition they deserve. You can go to Facebook right now and look at either one of their fan pages to see just how well liked the shows are. Both shows seem to have a loyal following, and this is what usually keeps them on the air for a few years, even when the ratings begin to dip because of competition from other series.
What really gives Game of Thrones and Homeland real credibility is recognition from the TV guild. Both shows have recently come up in discussions for top TV shows of the year. The writers of the shows are being nominated as well, along with the producers of the shows. Hollywood’s guilds represent top professionals who may work in a number of different entertainment industries.
They recognize talent and it is a high honor to even be considered for the reward. The writers who make the show along with the producers can definitely get a boost to their careers if they are able to win the award. But simply being nominated for it can lead to other opportunities once the series were no longer producing new episodes.
In case fans of Game of Thrones or Homeland are curious to know when the awards will be getting handed out, you can catch the Producers Guild Awards on January 21 in Beverly Hills. The Writers Guild Awards will be announced on February 19, with ceremonies said to be taking place in New York and Los Angeles. These ceremonies typically are not aired on television, but you may be able to find a broadcast.
Game of Thrones is based on the bestselling novels by George R.R Martin. Homeland is not based on a novel, but got three nominations for the writers who come up with the storylines.
These awards may not seem all that prestigious, but in this day where there is so much competition amongst television series, to have your picked out of the crowd really speaks volumes.
