Review: When accidentally meeting on an under cover mission in South America John and Jane Smith fall quickly in love and get married, what they do not know however is that they are both secretly working as assassins in rival secret agencies.

At home things seem perfect, their house is immaculate and they seem to live an idyllic existence; until their paths cross in an inescapably professional capacity.

What follows is a farcical comedy (and I use the word loosely) action drama in which the two begin to investigate one another and inevitably find they must face one another off at gun point, forced to decide whether their marriage or their jobs are more important to them.

Those expecting to see some kind of romantic sparks flying between Pitt and Jolie are likely to be sorely disappointed; Jolie is as bland and un-emotive as a wooden doll, whilst Pitt looks very good in a suit, but brings very little else to role. The narrative is completely vapid and transparent, totally uninspiring and ultimately lacking in any romantic depth whatsoever.

The characters provide absolutely no audience connectivity, they are completely beige and unbelievable, making their relationship utterly pointless to any viewer; this movie could have been about two best friends or even strangers on a train. Ultimately Mr & Mrs Smith is little more than an excuse to let Pitt and Jolie run around with fire arms making googley eyes at each other; there is very little here that can’t be found in other, far more superior, action-drama movies.

Description: Hollywood remake of the 2008 Icelandic film Contraband stars Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckingsale.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Review: Directed by the star of the European original titled Reykjavik Rotterdam, Contraband is a fairly straightforward (and I use that particular term loosely) action thriller about an ex-smuggler who, having retired after successfully avoiding punishment for years, is drawn back into the underground counterfeiting world when his wife’s loser brother fails to pull off a drug deal.

Wahlberg gives what some would describe as a “relaxed” performance, this does not quite highlight how little effort he is in fact putting into the character; it’s a bit hard to criticize him for such a poor portrayal however when even the most accomplished of actors would struggle to do much with such a one dimensional character in such a shallow and generic movie.

The story does exactly what you expect it to, with the addition of innumerable incoherent and unnecessary twists and turns until a bit of gunfire and some fancy footwork until our “hero” (and I use that particular term with vast amounts of sarcasm) finds his life in serious danger.

Despite the appearance of at least one surprisingly accomplished actor (Giovanni Ribsi as the villain with a ridiculous accent) Contraband remains almost entirely from start to finish, a narrative mess with insubstantial characters and a strange moment when a guy is locked behind a panel on board of a ship and then never spoken of again… all in all a complete and utter waste of time and film reel, thank goodness for digital photography.

Synopsis: An astronaut on an extended mission on the moon begins to find the isolation getting to him as he nears the end of his three year stay.

Description: Sam Bell is contracted to be the sole human manning a station the moon harvesting clean energy sources. With only his computer GERTY for companionship he begins to have strange hallucinations as the isolated nature of his work finally begins to get to him.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Review: Normally, when one mentions science fiction, thoughts of sprawling galaxies or alien invasion ensues, Duncan Jones’ Moon however, is very much the polar opposite. Following the story of a lone lunar miner the film is more about human nature, dealing with isolation and coming to terms with the truth after an unexpected discovery than most would expect from a film that falls within the realms of traditional science fiction narratives.

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell – The Green Mile and Iron Man 2) is 3 weeks away from returning home after 3 years of working on his lonesome with only a computer called GERTY for company (voiced by Kevin Spacey); but all is not as it seems and just as Sam is preparing to return home to see his wife and their infant daughter, he crashes into a secret that shakes the foundations of his life as his sheltered world begins to fall apart.

Moon is an infinitely difficult movie to review without giving away the mystery of it’s narrative, it’s a secret that’s up there with the likes of Bruce Willis’ identity in the Sixth Sense, yet the mystery lies at the absolute core of the movie; despite being revealed relatively early on in the runtime.

What can be said however is that Rockwell’s performance is fantastic; he alone shoulders a movie that has very little cast, he courageously takes on Bell’s story, developing a character that the viewer genuinely cares about and feels for – particularly when they discover how he has been deceived – leading the audience to whole heartedly will him to turn the movie’s outcome to his favour.

Despite being a theatrical debut for the director and filmed on a relatively small budget neither are noticeable as the attention to detail of the sets and characters make this an enjoyable, thought provoking film that pays homage to earlier works of science fiction and proves not everything has to be based around explosions and computer effects.

Description: Katherine Heigl stars in this bizarre mystery comic action drama as a woman in search of a man, only this one is on the run.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Review: Based on the highly popular crime thriller series by Janet Evanovich sexy divorcee Stephanie Plum is an unlikely New Jersey bounty hunter. Heigl plays Plum, a character that has become highly popular throughout her almost 20 novel history, unfortunately for fans however Heigl’s interpretation of Plum is considerably below par.

This is not entirely Heigl’s fault, as her performances in previous movies like Knocked Up and 27 Dresses have proved that she knows how to play both comedy and romance, One for the Money misses the mark on both of these points however, leaving Heigl with very little to work with.

The humour is incredibly tame and predictable, relying on over emphasized comedy shots rather than setting up reasonable comic situations or jokes. The characters leave rather a lot to be desired as well, coming across as rather inane caricatures rather than genuine people immortalised on screen. Hiegl is also particularly poorly cast; her New Jersey accent alone is more than enough to force you from your seat.

One can’t help but feel that had this movie had better direction and better casting choices then it could have been vastly improved; director Julie Anne Robinson has made some dodgy decision with this piece and doubtless let down hordes of Plum fans. I wonder what a director with an interest in the original content could have done with the piece. I suppose we will never know.

Beyond that, any stronger directorial hand with a sense of personality would have made a significant difference to One for the Money, as the script isn’t terrible and the story idea itself is relatively strong, this attempt misses out on almost every possibility however and I suspect will in fact make very little money.

Synopsis: An aging mob leader transfers his criminal empire to his son, who is rather reluctant to take the job.

Description: After returning home from the war Michael Corleone finds himself in charge of a New York Mafia family, whose traditional values are being threatened by the insurgence of new and less respecting criminals.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Review: Largely regarded as one of the best movies of all time The Godfather is the iconic Francis Ford Coppola crime drama that sparked a number of sequels and won three Oscars.

There is very little about this film to criticize, the performances are brilliant, Al Pacino (as Mike Corleone) and Marlon Brando (as an aging Don Vito Corleone) both portraying equally intense and complex characters with such ease and courage that you can not help but be drawn into the movie. Such high calibre performances are vital in making The Godfather a sustainable movie, its length, which stands at two hours fifteen, covers ten years of Michael Corleone’s life, in which such a great deal happens that you could easily loose interest if it weren’t for the strength of both the characters and the men portraying them.

The violence in this movie is still surprising, it is expertly shot, allowing each death and each bullet its own tense and captivating moment of action, which somehow seem endless yet are in fact over with a cutting speed.

Even the movie’s score seems effortlessly perfect, complimenting the tensest scenes with music so emotive you may find yourself almost unaware of its presence. Tie this with expert camera work and an almost flawless storyline and it leads The Godfather to still stand as almost unrivalled, even now forty years after it’s original release.

Although hugely impressive The Godfather is not for everyone, to watch it requires patience and a willingness to become involved with characters you may not like at first. Allowing yourself to become involved in this movie, which in itself is not difficult for anyone who finds themselves sitting down in front of it, is a massively rewarding experience as you will be treated to 175 minutes of some of the best film making ever seen.

Then once reality hit the infatuation quickly died.

Several sources have said that despite the couple being seemingly head over heels for each other, both of them were so different from each other that problems were bound to come up. At first these differences are what attracted them to each other, but they were what would lead to the couple’s demise.

Katy and Russell were said to have constant fights with each other and a large number of disagreements. These fights would take place outside of different places such as night clubs and even at award shows. Both of them were said to be extremely stubborn and neither one would back down.

It has also been reported that tension was caused in their relationship because of both of their demanding schedules. Because of this neither one of them was ever able to spend a lot of time together.

There were other problems though, such as Katy often complained that Russell liked to spend time at home while Katy liked to go out and party. Russell is Sober, and does not like the party scene at all. It is said that he routinely would leave certain places early and he would ask Katy to come with him. It would be at this point that an argument would ensue.

Despite the couple’s differences, sources report that neither has any hard feelings towards the other. Both of them believe that the other person never cheated despite being away from each other. In the end they both feel they were just too different from each other.

Some feel that Katy should have been more understanding of the fact that her husband wanted to stay sober and did not want to be around the party scene. Others feel, Russell should have tried to get along. People figure that Katy has to go to parties in order to keep her name out there. On some level people believe that the party scene is just a part of her career.

Seeing as how both of them were so different from each other, accommodation should have been made. Neither one of them should have become demanding, because this is what leads to relationship problems.

Its Official : Katy Perry and Russell Brand have filed for a divorce.

Brock said immediately after the fight that he has been going through a lot lately because of the disease he has been battling, and that he has to call it a career after seeing he is no longer able to compete at a high level.

Brock Lesnar, who is a past WWE superstar, has only been in three fights in the last two and a half years because he has been fighting a lower intestinal disease that nearly killed him.

The winner, Overeem, will get to fight the current UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos. Now Brock is a good fighter and he has put UFC on the map. In fact he is one of the few fighters that get a high purse amount for the few fights he has been in. His pay per views have been very good and usually sell for more than the average UFC pay per view does.

Some people simply believe that he was too inexperienced to compete in the octagon. A lot of people think he never quite got the training he needs in order to compete the way other fighters can. Understand that a lot of fighters in UFC are highly skilled, highly trained, and have practiced their discipline usually for a large number of years. A lot of them have fought around the world in obscure leagues before they got noticed.

It is argued that Brock Lesnar was fast tracked into the UFC because the owner, Dana White, knew he would be a big money maker. Even though he had early success, some people always believed that Brock would not hold up long against more experienced fighters.

You also have those who say Brock was afraid of getting hit. I would say this is not the case, because you cannot be a former UFC champion if you are afraid to get hit. Either way it is rumored that in the future Brock might turn up again in the WWE seeing as how it is far less brutal then UFC.

There have been rumors about the legendary rocker Steven Tyler being engaged for a while now. No one knew if it was true and all people could do was speculate. Now we have heard it directly from Steven. He announced that he is indeed engaged to be married. Sources reported this weeks ago, but it was not confirmed.

Steven Tyler’s fiancée Erin Brady has been seen around town wearing an engagement ring. Representatives for the American Idol judge have also confirmed that Steven Tyler has proposed. Steven Tyler’s family is not pleased at all to hear the news, which you would think would not be the case. Various sources have told celebrity gossip channels that the family is pissed off about it.

Many of them only learned about the engagement after he proposed. Keep in mind that the couple has been together since 2006, which is longer then what a lot of couples stay married in celebrity world. A lot of people feel that Tyler went about it the right way.

Now the reason some believe that Tyler’s family is not happy to hear about the engagement is because a lot of them are dependent on Tyler for various financial reasons. Some say that the family, especially the kids are concerned that the new woman is going to take up most of Tyler’s attention and this means there is going to be less for them. If this is the case then the kids and the family are being selfish.

I mean would the family prefer Tyler continue to do what he has always done, have endless one night stands with random women? Seeing as how he has been with this woman for several years now clearly means that he is serious about her. He has taken the time to get to know her properly before making such a big decision. I am sure he is well aware of the divorce rate, which is why he waited as long as he did to pop the question.

Steven Tyler’s family needs to learn how to be happy for the legendary rocker. I am sure that if Tyler has taken care of them this long, no woman is going to stop him from continuing to do so. Focusing on the money aspect is the wrong way to go about it.

Lebron James decided that it was about time that he made an honest woman out of the mother of his two kids and long time high school sweetheart. He proposed to her to ring in the New Year, and the news has spread all across the internet. Lebron’s long time girlfriend, Savannah Brinson was ecstatic to get the proposal. Lebron was said to have popped the question at a New Year’s Eve party at a SL night club in Miami.

The owner of the Miami Heat, Micky Arison tweeted that he is very happy for the couple.

Now there is a downside to all of this. Some feel that Lebron was doing the right thing by choosing not to get married. The logic for this was that by not getting married he would not have to worry about being crushed in the case of a divorce. Several examples were used to make the case, such as what is going on with Lakers star Kobe Bryant at the moment, who is expected to have to pay over 100 million dollars to his soon to be ex wife.

There are also some who have made personal attacks at Savannah through various blogs and internet celebrity gossip websites. Some believe she is simply not attractive enough to be with a man of Lebron’s caliber, and that living in South Beach, it is only a matter of time before Lebron cheats and we hear about it in the news.

Even if these things were to happen it is no reason to wish bad on the couple. Lebron has been with this woman for a long time and they know each other inside and out. It is better for him to marry a woman who was by his side before he had millions rather than getting with a woman who is a supermodel, but who might not give him the time of day otherwise.

Sure, Lebron could have gone for the supermodel girl, the arm candy that will help him spend his money. The problem is if he did it is guaranteed to end badly. I’d say it is about time someone got married for the right reasons and not simply to have a status symbol on their arm. I am sure Lebron marriage will last longer than most will, because the couple has been there for each other through thick and thin.
