Glossary of Terms

Digital Technologies - Digital technologies provide a way for users to utilize and enjoy the benefits of innovation and creativity.  They include devices with which to listen to music, view videos, play games, time-shift entertainment or information, and other software or hardware that makes those possible.

Digital Freedom - Digital Freedom is the right of every individual to utilize new digital technologies to innovate, create, or otherwise enjoy these technologies without unreasonable government restrictions. The Digital Freedom Campaign recognizes that there are some legitimate restrictions that government can and should place on technologies for purposes of privacy, law enforcement, and national security.

Innovators - Innovators are individuals who turn their visions into designs and build new digital technologies.  They can also be artists who apply the dreams of other innovators to new ways that they create and distribute  their works.

Artists - Artists include musicians, photographers, film-makers, authors, and all other creative individuals who rely on digital technologies to both create news works of art and to distribute those works to other individuals.

Consumers - Consumers are individuals who listen to, view, or otherwise enjoy the fruits of the labors of artists and innovators, in their own homes or wherever, whenever, and however they choose.  Consumers are not pirates.

Big Record Labels and Studios - Big record labels and studios are the major corporations who restrict creativity and innovation in the quest for protecting their monopolies over distribution models for music and video.

Boy If the big record labels and studios have their way, the freedom that technology brings to innovate, create, participate, produce, listen, and see, will be severely limited if not disappear altogether.
