The Issue

DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA) v. Kaleidescape
DVD CCA sued Kaleidescape claiming that it is illegal to sell a home server which copies legally-purchased DVDs to a hard drive and sends them around a secure home network.

20th Century Fox Film Corp. et. al v. Cablevision Systems Corp et. al.20th Century Fox sued Cablevision over the legality of its “network DVR” service, which allows consumers to make noncommercial recordings in the home.

Atlantic Recording Company et. al. v. XM Satellite Radio Inc.
The major record labels are suing XM over the legality of its “Inno” satellite receiver, which allows consumers to make recordings off the radio for personal use.

Association of American Publishers v.  Google 
The publishers are suing Google for digitizing libraries, even though the information publicly displayed is minimal (like a library card) and publishers can opt out. 

Viacom International Inc. v. Google Inc.
Viacom is suing Google for not proactively removing content that Viacom claims is infringing, despite the fact that the law clearly puts the burden on the copyright owner to identify infringing material.
