Review: Talk about a colossal movie twist. This is one of those movies that is so atmospheric that you could really feel the waves banging on the sharp edges of huge Island rocks. The setting is very dark and wet. Shutter Island is very isolated, surrounded with towering steep cliffs and gigantic killer waves. Escape is almost inconceivable, as probably a person attempting to swim his way out of shutter Island would immediately be crushed by the waves pounding it’s rocky perimeters. The setting of this movie is so dark that it’s beautiful, perfect for its dark plot.
This film also shows the darkest of all places– the human mind. Anyone would love how this movie translated the novel written by Dennis Lehane, a multi award and best seller author famous for writing mystery novels. As every avid novel readers would probably profess that movies can never overcome books, they might be wrong about this movie. The novel adaptation is top notch. With the story’s main character portrayed by a great and well-known movie actor (DiCaprio), this movie is beyond beautiful, it is an experience and a journey in the adventures that happen inside human thoughts.
This movie was really an intense and almost disturbing experience. This is a superb portrayal of the realities of the mind and almost gave a clear picture and an understanding of how mentally deranged individuals lose grip of reality. It somewhat gave an idea how it will feel when someone suddenly realizes that everything he has lived for and believed, was all but a lie.
